The Legacy of Being Real
There's a story called [The Velveteen Rabbit. ](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/144974.The_Velveteen_Rabbit) It's about a stuffed animal that was drug around by a Boy during the magical childhood moments, through sickness and fear.
What is Real? The Velveteen Rabbit asked the old, wise Horse in the nursery.
The Horse says that being real is when The Boy loves you regardless of your appearance or age.
When he loves you for who you are, then you're Real.
Our culture needs more people who are Velveteen Rabbit real. People who are empathetic, compassionate, and gentle. We are living uncomplicated lives with values that are sustainable and important.
Velveteen Rabbit important.
These are people who take time for others and for children. They help when needed. They listen without judgment. They employ stewardship and fidelity, and other simple secrets for a compelling life.
I'm afraid people don't know how to be Real anymore. We're too busy striving. What for, I'm still determining. Things that are meaningless when we're gone. Things that aren't Real.
When we're Real with people, we leave a legacy. Like the Boy and the Rabbit, doing life in the dirt, sickness, and fear.
Are you spending time with people in dirty places, filled with sickness and fear?** These are Real moments full of truth, love, and compassion,priceless moments in a world where shiny, big, and beautiful are valued.
People don't care about being shiny, big, and beautiful when death comes.
They want to hold on to something Real.
A legacy that's planted down deep, one they can hold onto.
I don't know about you, but ten minutes on social media and the nightly news leaves me empty. There are a lot of violent and out of control things happening. People shouting, blaming, living in fear.
I refuse to accept a world where people lose sight of what's real.
